The 2019 State Honor Roll of Asthma and Allergy Policies for Schools ranks the states with the best public policies for people with asthma, food allergies, anaphylaxis and related allergic diseases in U.S. elementary, middle and high schools.

Epinephrine in Schools: In 2014, Indiana passed SB 245, allowing health care providers to prescribe auto-injectable epinephrine to a school or school district. The law also protects certain school employees and health care providers from civil liability.

Albuterol in Schools: In 2017, Indiana expanded on existing law allowing schools to stock epinephrine by enacting a law allowing schools to stock albuterol (as well as naloxone) and extending liability protections to nurses or other school employees who administer these stock medications. Indiana P.L. 117–2017

Asthma in Schools: Indiana’s State Department of Health website promotes the maintenance of an individualized asthma action as a key component to its asthma emergency care plan for the 2014-2015 school year.
