Continuing Education for Health Care Professionals
Asthma Management and Education Online (AME-O) Free CEUs
This online course is presented by Cross Country University for health professionals who teach and care for patients with asthma. The content follows the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program (NAEPP) 2007 Expert Panel Report 3: Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma.
The AME-O course is based on the NAEPP’s “Four Components of Asthma Management.” Participants who finish the course will learn:
- Information on assessment and monitoring
- Control of environmental factors
- Medicine management
- Patient education
The course has 12 units that you finish at your own speed. Nurses and respiratory therapists can earn seven (7) continuing education credits from the American Nurses’ Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC) and the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC).

Asthma Management and Education (AME)
This program is an on-site, three-hour course. You will learn about:
- The pathophysiology of asthma and allergy
- Current treatments
- Effective ways to teach patients
- Ways to prevent asthma episodes
- Hands-on use of peak flow meters and medicine delivery devices
This course also talks about the value of health professionals working with patients to manage their asthma. The course follows the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program’s (NAEPP) 2007 Expert Panel Report 3: Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma.
The Maryland Nurses Association program has approved this program for three (3) continuing education credits. The American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC) has approved this program for two (2) CRCE credits. To find a program in your area, visit aafaprograms.hbp.com.
